H&H Insure My Ride Suzuki Race Report MX Nationals Round 10

Melbourne, VIC (4th September2012) – The Hart and Huntington / InsureMyRide race team set off for the last round of the Monster Energy MX Nationals for the year in sunny Coolum QLD.

With a great looking Coolum track we knew that this round would be one that everyone would remember, as most riders and teams go all out for the final round. Plus we had our custom gold chrome bikes which were put together by Exotic Graphix, Ringmaster Images and John Titman Racing.

With Lewis’s flying home to Melbourne mid week to visit his hand specialist we knew that this weekend would be his last on a bike for the year as he requires hand surgery (This will see Lewis heal up and coming into 2013 were he will now make the move back to the 450 class). Again with Lewis putting in an excellent qualifying session walking away with 8th overall on the Saturday this would give his hand time to rest before the 3 moto’s on Sunday. With Lewis getting off the line around 15th place he maintained a consistent pace and rode away to 9th place in moto 1. Lewis had a better jump off the gate in moto 2 where he was running inside the top 10, around 4 laps in he dropped his bike going into a corner, this would see him just outside the top 15, with some last minute passes Lewis got over the line in 14th place. With only a few points separating him to be placed inside the top 10, Lewis was determined before his final moto of the year. Again with Lewis getting a decent start just outside the top 10 he fought his way through the pack and held on for a 10th place finish which would see him 11th overall at the Coolum round and finish the MX2 championship in 10th place.

Daniel had a great decent qualifying session putting him in 12th place overall for Coolum round 10 of the MX Nationals. DMC’s moto 1 start was cracking with him sitting in 3rd place just after the first turn, as Dan rode solid and held his ground we would see him finish moto 1 in 5th place. Moto 2 would see Dan out of the gate up front again, but this time he couldn’t match his moto 1 5th place, and he would complete moto 2 in 8th. With an extended break due to a serious injury on the track DMC lined up for his final moto of the day and with the Hart and Huntington / InsureMyRide team. With another awesome start as he has done all year DMC was running top 5, but after a few laps Dan faded back to 10th place which would see him get an overall of 8th place and finish the series in 9th place in the MX1 class. Dan has departed the team and will contest the Supercross series with another team. We would like to thanks Dan for his effort this year and wish him all the best.

We would like thank each and every one of our sponsors who is associated with the team as we could not have completed our first MX Nationals series without them.

Hart and Huntington MX Nationals 2012 Round 9

Melbourne, VIC (23rd August 2012) – The Hart and Huntington / InsureMyRide race team head to Moree MX track for the 9th round of the Monster Energy MX Nationals.

A well groomed Moree MX track meant Sunday’s racing would be some of the finest coming into the 2nd last round of the series. Tire choice was also going to be another factor as it looked like the track might dry out towards the end of the day, making the riders switch to a harder pack tire.
Lewis again came into this round carrying a wrist injury which affected his riding in Appin, but he proved there he can still ran top 15 in the MX2 class. His injury is affecting him on the throttle side of the bike which doesn’t allow him full movement in his wrist, this cause’s Lewis to basically move the throttle with his elbow (as you will see in the latest web episode clip). With a mid pack start in moto 1 Lewis was able to consistently hold 15th place during the race, with a short 5 minute break Lewis was back on the line for moto 2. Again struggling with his wrist Lewis rode out the 2nd moto in 15th place and grabbed valuable championship points. With the 3rd and final moto up this was going to be the most painful for Lewis as moto 3 is the 30 minute plus moto, but as tough as Lewis is he fought his way up to 12th position for the final moto. Lewis now sits in 11th place in the MX2 championship.

DMC came into this round as fresh as he has been all year. Dan was looking to finally put his Hart and Huntington / InsureMyRide Suzuki on the podium for the first time all season. With some great qualifying times DMC was 2 seconds off the leader which put him in 9th. With a cracking start Dan was out of the first corner in top 3, he held this place for a few laps but a couple of small mistakes would see him finish in 8th place for moto 1. With the short 5 minute break DMC was on the line again, McCoy launched off the line in moto 2 again running top 3 out of the first turn. Dan battle with the front runners for the entire moto, he held onto a well-earned 6th place. During the lunch break DMC changed his tire choice to the Pirelli 554 mid hard as the track was drying out which caused it to harden up. McCoy again put his RMZ450 into a top 5 spot coming out of the first turn for moto 3, his starts had been terrific all day! With a few battles going on Dan was strong enough to complete moto 3 in 8th place which would see him take an overall of 8th on the day. McCoy has now moved into 9th place in the MX1 championship.

The Hart and Huntington / InsureMyRide team will head to Coolum QLD for the final round of Monster Energy MX Nationals on August 25th and August 26th for a two day schedule race.

Round 8 Of The AU MX Nationals from Appin NSW

Melbourne, VIC (2nd August 2012) – The Hart and Huntington / InsureMyRide race team head to Appin MX track for the 8th round of the Monster Energy MX Nationals.

A primed looking Appin track on Saturday only meant we were in for an awesome days racing on Sunday, with perfect weather conditions on Sunday this was DMC’s home track to take advantage of.

Coming off an injury to the weekend prior from a photoshoot, Lewis was to face an uphill battle with his throttle wrist. With Suzuki Racesafe doing the best they could on Lewis’s wrist it still could not eliminate the pain factor. With Lewis qualifying just outside the top 20 he knew the rest of the days moto’s were about championship points to keep that 10 place in the MX2 class. Both moto’s 1 and 2 Lewis had mid pack starts and rode solid considering to finish both moto 1 and 2 in 17th place which would grab him 8 championship points. During the lunch break a lot of icing on his wrist went down before the 30 minute plus moto. Again for moto 3 Lewis was just outside the top 15, but his effort was not lost seeing him complete a growling 30 minute plus moto in 16th place to clinch 5 precious championship pints. Lewis still sits in 10th place in the MX2 class and can rest his wrist during the 3 week break before Round 9.

With Dan’s first home town race and a lot of DMC’s fans Dan was keen to put his Hart and Huntington / InsureMyRide Suzuki on the podium for the home town crowd. A few bike issues in practice meant DMC was force to ride his practice bike for qualifying. Only 2 second off the fastest qualifier left DMC in 8th for his session. With Dan first moto his start was around the top 10 mark, DMC was defiantly look on pace and was riding his spare bike smooth, he continued to maintain a 10th place in moto 1. With a great start in moto 2 Dan look like he was going to crack the top 5, but unfortunately he came together with Brad Anderson and was un able to finish moto 2 due to bike problems. With time to rest up for moto 3 DMC was ready for the 30 minute plus moto. With a cracking start Dan was inside the top 5 after the first corner and held this for a few laps. DMC rode solid through out the moto to finish off in 10th place, with an overall just outside the top 10 on the day Dan still sits in 10th place in the MX1 championship.

The Hart and Huntington / InsureMyRide team will head to Moree NSW for round 9 of Monster Energy MX Nationals on August 19th for a one day schedule race.

AU MX Nationals Episode 7 Horsham VIC

Melbourne, VIC (19th July, 2012) – The Hart and Huntington / InsureMyRide race team geared up for round 7 of the Monster Energy MX Nationals which was to be held at Horsham VIC.

With rain most of the week in Victoria weather conditions didn’t look to be on anyone’s side for Sunday. Even though it didn’t heavily rain on Sunday the rain on Saturday was enough to turn the track into a mud pit for Sunday race.

Lewis didn’t have the best qualifying session with him ending up qualifying in 15th position. With the track probably in the worst condition all day Lewis was up with his back to back moto’s 1 & 2. With a mid pack position after the first corner Lewis had some work ahead of him, battling the mud which was weighing the bike down Lewis fought his way to finish moto 1 in 11th place. With a 5 minute break before moto 2 it was a case of how much mud could Lewis’s mechanic Paul get off his bike before moto 2 started! Again with bad start Lewis was again outside the top 10 coming out of corner 1, he had to battle again with massive amounts of mud sticking to his bike. After the 15 minutes were up Lewis completed his 2nd moto in 11th place. Fresh from the lunch break and a clean bike Lewis was keen to get a decent start and try and grab some valuable championship points. Getting a better start in moto 3 (running around 12th) Lewis was ready to take on the 30 minute moto. With around 6 laps remain Lewis’s pace looked a little off, after finishing moto 3 in 10th Lewis came back to the setup and we found that his bike was actually over heating during moto 3. This week L-Dub has done a grip of testing and the problem looks to be sorted. Lewis finished in 11th place overall on the day and still sits 10th place in the MX2 championship.

Dan had a great qualifying session which saw him sit in 6th place. All geared up for moto 1 DMC got a great jump off the line which saw him running top 5 out of corner 1. With a small crash this put Dan back which would see him complete moto 1 in 8th place. In the 5 minute break it was again a race to extract as much mud from Dan’s bike as possible before moto 2 started. Getting another great jump into corner Dan rode solid through the 15minute moto to end up in 9th place. With the mission of cleaning DMC’s bike before moto 3, Dan was ready to put a good start into a good finish. Kicking off moto 3 Dan flew into turn 1 sitting in 3rd place, with the track probably in the best condition it had been all day laps times were getting faster and faster, with some MX1 riders 10 seconds quicker in moto 3 than moto 1! Dan dropped a few positions as the race went on which would see him end up in 8th place which would give him and 8th overall on the day and leave DMC in 10th place in the MX1 championship. Dan is really looking forward to Appin as it will be his hometown round.

The Hart and Huntington / InsureMyRide team will head to Appin NSW for round 8 of Monster Energy MX Nationals on July 29th for a one day schedule race.

Lewis Woods hopes for a wet and muddy Horsham

Fresh off the back of his best moto result of the season where he finished in fourth place in the opening moto at Hervey Bay just under two weeks ago, Woods is looking forward to returning to a track where he won the final round of the Victorian State MX Championships in convincing fashion just 3 weeks ago.

“I feel pretty good heading into this weekend, I am a hard pack rider and Horsham is a hard pack track, so it should suit me that way.” said Woods.

“I had a Victorian state title there a couple of weeks ago, It was muddy and I rode well there and it’s a track that I usually ride well at.” he added

Woods rode more than well, winning two of the four motos and finishing second in the other two moto’s in some of the muddiest conditions seen so far this year and with the chance of the same type of conditions this weekend, the experience in the mud at Horsham may prove to be very valuable.

“On any mud track you have to keep your bike working and keep it going through the mud, but at this track its different.” said the Suzuki mounted rider.

“It becomes hard to change gears and use your rear brake due to the amount of mud that builds up around the footpegs.

“That was one of the biggest problems I had at the state titles, if it ends up being the same, we have made a few changes to stop the mud from sticking in those areas so bad.” Woods explained.

While most of the field will be hoping that the weather gods play nice and the rain stays clear both heading into Sunday’s race and throughout the day, Woods is not fused either way on how the conditions turns out and even favours his chances a little more if things do get sloppy, especially with the home state support.

“It is probably the only race I have ever gone into hoping it rains, if it pours down with rain, I know exactly how to ride the track.” said the year old

“It is different to any other track when it is wet, especially when they rip it deep and it sounds like it has been ripped already, there should be some nice deep ruts, I am looking forward to it.” he continued.

“Its always a good round for me, there is not much travelling involved for myself and a lot of the boys will be there to cheer me on, so it should be fun.” Woods concluded.

Woods heads into round seven of the championship in 10th position in the MX2 class on 211 points

H&H AU MX Nationals 2012 – Round 6 Hervey

Melbourne, VIC (5th July, 2012) – The Hart and Huntington / InsureMyRide race team headed north for round 6 of the Monster Energy MX Nationals which was held in Hervey Bay QLD. With a much need mid season break, team riders Lewis Woods and Dan McCoy were ready to battle again.

With decent weather during the weekend the only issue was the track. It looked to be in good condition on the Saturday but straight after first practice on Sunday it deteriorating quickly, leaving holes everywhere with quite a few boggy sections where some riders were actually getting bogged.

Fresh off his 2nd place overall in the Victorian MX Titles in the Championship, Lewis was on a mission to put his Hart and Huntington / InsureMyRide Suzuki on the podium for the first time this year. With a solid qualifying time Lewis then prepared for Moto’s 1 and 2. Straight off the line Lewis meant business running around 7th place after the first turn. Lewis rode solid and smart the entire race without any mistakes, he then worked his way up to 4th place mid race. Without giving up his position with a hard charging Ford Dale, Lewis finished in 4th which is his best result for the year so far. Moto 2 start wasn’t the best with Lewis coming out of the first corner in around 10th place, holding that position with a few laps to go, a lapper cut Lewis off and his bike got stuck together which cost him 2 positions which would see him finish in 12th place. With a short lunch break L-Dub was ready to rumble in the final 30 plus minute. With a cracking start sitting around 5th for most of the first lap Ford Dale then tuck his front wheel into Lewis coming into the back corner heading toward the finish line, both riders went down and basically were dead last. Lewis fought his way through the pack and finished solid in 10th place with an overall off equal 8th on the day which now sees him in 10th position in the MX2 championship.

After spending the majority of his time in the USA while we enjoyed a 6 week break from the MX Nationals, Dan was ready to prove his time was well spent training overseas. Ready for Moto 1 Dan launched off the line and was running in around 5th place after the first turn, he held this for the entire race until bike problems hit causing him to DNF Moto 1. Moto 2 DMC lined up on his spare bike which he had not ridden since he left for the USA 6 weeks ago. With a mid-pack start Dan continued to ride the ever deteriorating track and end Moto 2 in 10th place. With changes to his spare bike for Moto 3 DMC was ready. Again with a great start sitting around 6th place after the first turn Dan rode most of the race in 5th place until yet again bike problems hit with a few laps to go causing him not ride to his 100% capability. This would see Dan fall back to 7th place in Moto 3 which would see him 14th overall on the day and now sitting 10th place in the MX1 championship.

AU MX Nationals 2012 – Round 5 Murray Bridge SA

Melbourne, VIC (25th May, 2012) – The Hart and Huntington / InsureMyRide race team headed over to South Australia for round 5 of the MX Nationals last weekend.

With a great looking track which the track crew had prepared during the week we were again set for an epic day’s racing with a much needed one day race schedule. Weather conditions were very cold in the morning but by lunchtime the sun was out and there was nothing but blue skies!

Lewis qualified just over top 10 which was one of his better qualifying sessions to date this year. With a busy one day race Lewis had a short break before his back to back motos. Lewis didn’t get the best start off the gate for moto 1 which left him well behind the front runners, this forced him to again fight hard through the pack which would see him end up in 11th place for moto 1. Moto 2 start was Lewis great with him running within the top 10 pack Lewis hung on to complete moto 2 in 6th place. With the lunch break over and MXD moto’s finished it was now time for Lewis’s 30 minute moto which was the last of his day. Again Lewis struggled to get a decent start with him getting off the gate just out of the top 10 bracket, with some of the great passes made Lewis broke away to finish moto 3 in 7th place which gave him 7th overall on the day. Lewis now sits in 9th place in the MX2 class.

With Dan qualifying 11th this gave him a decent gate pick for moto’s 1 and 2. The sun was finally starting to break through for the MX1’s first moto. A good jump off the gate saw DMC sitting round mid top 10 into the first corner. With solid composure during moto 1, Dan held onto a 6th place finish. Again for moto 2 DMC got a good jump off the gate which would see him running top 10, but during moto 2 Dan lost the entire inside of his muffler which cause him to lose power, but DMC still managed to finish moto 2 in 9th place. With the final 30 minute moto left Dan recouped during the lunch break and was ready take moto 3 head on. Again with a decent start Dan sat just outside the top 10, with the top 10 riders in moto 3 not really changing positions that much DMC finished off in 9th place for moto 3, which left him in 8th place overall for the day. Dan now sits in 9th place in the MX1 class.

With a 6 week break before round 6 kicks off DMC will head to the USA for some training while Lewis will stay in Australia and compete in the last 2 rounds of the Victorian State titles which currently he is coming 3rd overall in the Pro Lites class.

H&H AU MX Nationals 2012 – Round 4 Wanneroo WA

Melbourne, VIC (18th May, 2012) – The Hart and Huntington / InsureMyRide Suzuki race team made the big trip west to sunny Western Australia for the fourth round of the series which was to be held at AJS motorcycle club in Wanneroo WA.

With the track in great condition on Saturday as it had been raining most of the week conditions were prime for practice and qualifying on Saturday. Sunday was to be a different story as the track was one of the roughest we have seen, this would defiantly be a race for men and not boys.

With a not so good qualifying this left Lewis to prepare over night for his back to back race on Sunday and moto 3 which was again the 30 minute moto. After some minor changes on the Saturday and some track time Lewis was feeling comfortable with riding sand again. He managed a great start in the first of the back to back 15 minute motos and rode very well picking of some riders and maintained his position for a solid 5th spot finish. He lined straight back up for the second moto and got a cracker of a start and battled the whole race and finished in 7th place. After the races Lewis commented on the fact his bike is running the best it has all season and seem to be very happy as Brian from EBT had done a great job again. Lewis lined up for a the 30 minute moto and got off to a flyer of a start and was running in 4th position for quite a while after getting passed by two of the factory riders, lewis maintained seventh for the finish, with an overall result of 6th Lewis Woods has had his best outing for the season so far.

With a decent qualifying session and some minor crashes Dan prepared overnight as much as he could for Sunday. Lining up for the back to back 15′s and some good starts the track was well and truly rough but the end of the motos, with big holes and big whoops starting to appear. Dan had two top ten finishes in the first two motos (5th and 8th), a rim needed to be changed due to a flat spot as the track was getting rough. DMC then lined up feeling fresh for the 30 minute moto as he launched off to a great start he got the jump on everyone, but due to the outside line he found himself in about 5th to 8th position for first lap battling the factory riders. Line choice was what it was all about, the lines into some of the corners resembled a rhythm section on a Supercross track with doubling the breaking bumps into some of the corners. With Dan rounding off the last moto in 8th place which left him 7th overall.

Lewis now sits in 9th place in the MX2 championship and Dan also sits in 9th place in the MX1 championship. Both riders were stoked on how good the PIRELLI tires were in the sand and cannot wait to continue the good form into round 5 at Murray Bridge this weekend.

The Hart and Huntington / InsureMyRide Suzuki team gears up for Murray Bridge SA, for 1 day scheduled race on Sunday May 20th for the fifth round of the 2012 Monster Energy MX Nationals.

Race Report – AU MX Nationals Round 3

Melbourne, VIC (4th May, 2012) – The Hart and Huntington / InsureMyRide race team had a local round for round 3 of the Monster Energy MX Nationals at Wonthaggi last weekend. Weather conditions were typical Melbourne style, hot one minute cold and windy the next, but again another good weekend of racing was to be.
Wonthaggi track looked to be in prime condition on Saturday before racing even due to some heavy rain during the week, but by Sunday morning the track looked that ruff and beat it almost looked impossible to lay down a solid lap.

Lewis was keen to put his Hart and Huntington / InsureMyRide Suzuki on the box for the first time this year. With a solid start from moto 1 lewis maintained a consistent 11th place. A decent start in moto 2 was what Lewis had been looking for all day but this was to end when he had a crash on the last lap which put him back to finish moto 2 in 13th place. With a few bike issue’s that needed to be sorted out during the break this gave Lewis time to prepare for the moto 3 which was a 30 minute moto. At the first turn Lewis was running in around 5th place and held this spot until Ryan Marmont had a massive crash which Lewis got tangled up in. This put Lewis mid pack which he fought his way back to 10th place for moto 3 which put him in 10th place overall for the day. Lewis now sits in 11th place in the MX2 class in the championship.

DMC was in great shape coming into round 3 and with all expects of finally getting a podium for himself and the team. Dan got off to a flying start in moto 1 coming into the first turn around 5th, McCoy rode solid and finish in 7th place. With another cracking start sitting around 5th in the first turn Dan hit a wet patch which caused his RM-Z450 to slide out which ended up in him being run over and even having a burnout ripped on his leg. Coming from dead last McCoy pushed hard through the pack and ended up in 18th place in moto 2. During the break Dan was treated by Suzuki Race Safe for his sore elbows. With a decent top 10 start McCoy rode hard again and finished the race in 10th place giving him 12th place overall on the day. McCoy now sits in 10th place in the MX1 class in championship.

Special thanks to the guys at Exotic Graphix for hooking McCoy and Lewis up with fresh new custom wrapped lids for this round and to Ringmaster Images for pumping out some revised bike graphics.

The Hart and Huntington / InsureMyRide team heads to Wanneroo WA, for another 2 day scheduled race Saturday May 12th and Sunday May 13th for the fourth round of the 2012 Monster Energy MX Nationals.
